Letter from RWYC Hon. Sec. Joe Long dated 25th Aug 09
Dear Charlie,
Many apologies for being so late in contacting you, but as the sole officer of the RWYC this summer I have had rather a lot to do. Nevertheless, things have been happening and I now reproduce below a notice I have just emailed to our members.
"Tribute to the late David Wilding
In memory of David, who passed away on 22nd May 2009 after a long illness, our ever-faithful steward, Les Williams, has suggested that the Club should pay tribute to his contribution to all our lives as follows: At approximately 16.00 hours on Saturday, 12th September, 2009, Ocean Phoenix will sail past the Club House and anchor off. Our members and David s friends will then sail past, accompanied by a gun salute. Afterwards we will gather in the Club with Lindsey and her daughters as guests of honour. The following morning there will be a memorial service on Ocean Phoenix led by Russell Owen and Gwyndaf Hughes, after which we will again retire to the Club for refreshments.
Les s suggestion has been approved by the Management Committee and it is hoped that members will keep this weekend clear and do their best to attend. We expect that many of David s friends from other clubs will also be present - in particular from Wicklow Sailing Club, which would give us an opportunity to devise a competition between our clubs with a trophy in memory and honour of David.
Further information will be sent by email."
Please let me know in due course whether any of you can come/sail over for this event.
Kind regards,
Joe Long
Hon. Secretary, Royal Welsh Yacht Club
