Annual General Meeting

Wicklow Sailing Club held its Annual General Meeting in the clubhouse on Fri 28th November in front of a packed house. President Fred Drew gave a very well delivered salutary address on declining standards at all levels within the club and urged members to make the effort to pull together for the greater good.
Outgoing Commodore, John Johnson, gave a run down on the years activities with the major highlights being the BMW Round Ireland, the visit of the Viking replica ship, Sea Stallion of Glendalough and the clubhouse renovations, now complete. He thanked all who had contributed their talents during the year, especially his fellow outgoing officers Henrik Heckmann, Sean Flood and Lynn Stringer whose terms have ended.
Honorary Treasurer, John Hughes, presented the accounts which were disappointing and reflect the current recession among other issues. He stressed the need for more activity to generate bar sales and also tighter controls. He welcomed the bridge club tenancy as a lifeline to the clubs finances.
Incoming Commodore, Charlie Kavanagh, hopes to bring forward a club development plan and find a new title sponsor for the Round Ireland Race (BMW have completed their contract). He stressed the need for improving the financial situation and urges all members to be team players and contribute their talents for the benefit of the club.
