Outboard Blues! 25/3 As keen followers of the Wicklow People and the grapevine will know, our Boatpark was raided last week and a 40HP Yamaha 4 stroke outboard engine was stolen off the Rescue RIB. This will be very upsetting for our dinghy sailors whose Spring programme was scheduled to start next weekend, apart from the sheer annoyance felt by all members at such a dastardly act against voluntary club members. Keep your eyes open around the waterfronts along the East coast. Our new outboard is now in place and had its 1st run on Easter Sunday. We would appeal to all members to be vigilant and also careful when using the Boatpark lock - please spin the dials after opening and also when closing..
Just Desserts
Lynn, Elaine and Jacky surpassed themselves with a sensually scrumptious sexy selection of sweeties on Sunday 30th. Well done girls - the queue will be down the quay the next day - watch this space. Bravo our young 'uns! Some of our younger members have taken the initiative to tackle the running of our Dinghy section, which is now very much a younger persons fleet in WSC. Under the able leadership of International sailor Brian Flahive, with his side kick Bryan ("Teddy") Byrne and student Clodagh Haughton, they have assumed control for this season and already have an ambitious programme set up. They are looking for sponsors to help with prizemoney and funding towards away events, so if you have deep pockets and feel you would like to help, please contact Brian. Lets hope their example will be followed by some of our slightly older members in other areas of the club - there's loads to be done all round and helpers are scarce. What you can do............. The Clubhouse/bar is an asset available for use by all our members and friends. In order to avoid levies and increased subscriptions in the future, we need to greatly increase our bar activity (esp. off season). You should not expect the entertainments committee to do all the work - we are all members in this club together. Do you think there is something from the following list you can organise (get some friends/members to help out). We can promote your event through the calendar / newsletter on our website, and possibly through the Wicklow People, if you do the rest. Kerrie can also help out by taking names/deposits etc.Contact Gerry Nolan, Kerrie Gill or Charlie Kavanagh to make a booking. Ideas - Skill demonstarion, musical event, quiz, talk on an interesting topic, book launch/signing, poetry readings, recital, art exhibition, wine tasting, history expo, Friends of Round Ireland/Wicklow SC, treasure hunt, tombola, auction, murder mystery, meal, ladies night, hen or stag party, family frolics, interclub event, disco/band night, charity fundraiser, birthday, anniversary, retirement, going away, christening, reception, surprise or any other fun event you might have in mind- family events most welcome . Just to let you know, a number of Committee members are taking the lead by organising a few events up to the end of April - Gerry Haughton / musical evening, Yuri Mc Kenna / cooking at sea demo & Lynn Stringer and friends - a fun evening with cakes etc.....over to you. |
WSC Ramblers For all lovers of an energetic stroll on a pre-arranged Saturday morning, our " Sherpa" Kevin Desmond rounds up the pack mules and heads up to the Wicklow Hills with his hardy bunch of intrepid adventurers. These walks are open to all members and friends of Wicklow Sailing Club. The next walk will be on ?? (watch this space) It is very important that all taking part bring snacks with suitable weather gear and footwear for use on the hills/mountains. A suitable level of basic fitness is also important. Dogs must be kept under control. Contact Kevin at 0404 67556 or e-mail kevindesmond@eircom.net The 1st walk of 2006 took place on a dull overcast day on Saturday February 11th, at Devils Glen Wood, up to Tiglin AC via the waterfall.

The 3rd walk was on Saturday 11th March, along the Avonmore river from Rathdrum (Glanbia Mills) to Clara Vale and back - conditions were pleasant for walking and we made it back in good time for the Ire v Scotland game. The 4th walk was on Sat April 1st with a walk along Glemalure Valley to the Shay Elliot monument. Click on the date to read about it.
Rugby Matters (so does sailing!) The excitement continues. Munster stuffed the ball up their shirts and gave poor old Leinster the Blues in Lansdowne Road in the semi final, so now all rugby lovers will be booking their seats for the clash between the Basques of Biarritz against the mighty Munster Giants in Cardiff on Saturday 20th May. Up the Reds! Thanks Our long suffering Hon. Treasurer, John Hughes, has dipped into his pocket and pulled out a few rabbbits for the benefit of the members. He has agreed to supply ramping for the back door to allow wheelchair access and also, a TV/DVD player for the Round Ireland room to facilitate presentations and idle juniors. Many thanks to John for his generosity. It is now in situ and being used. Anyone else able to help with similar donations are always welcome. Childrens Officer The Committee is most grateful to Aishling Carroll for taking on the role of our Childrens Officer for 2006. She has attended the ISA Training course in late January and has reported to the Committee on her role. She will be in contact with the Junior Organiser and the Junior committee to outline her role. All parents and children under the age of 18 should be aware of her availablity. We thank Aishling for assuming this responsibility. She can be contacted at 086 1954763.
