Conway Media to sponsor Round Ireland Yacht Race 2010
Wicklow Sailing Club is delighted to announce that Conway Media Limited, a member of the Conway group of companies, will be the title sponsor for the 2010 Round Ireland Yacht Race.
This exciting race, first organised by Wicklow Sailing Club in 1980, is now regarded as one of Europe’s premier offshore competitions and is run under Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) conditions. Speaking at the announcement, Charlie Kavanagh, Commodore of Wicklow Sailing Club, welcomed the involvement of Conway Media, a Wicklow based Design and Print Media company, in this prestigious event. This is a very significant development as it is the first time the highly respected international event has been sponsored by a Wicklow company.
Mr Roy Conway, director of Conway Media, has previously competed in the Round Ireland Race on a number of occasions and understands well the rigours and rewards of this challenging 704 mile long course around the island of Ireland.
There are still opportunities for secondary sponsorships to support the Round Ireland and to help heighten the profile of a company or brand by associating with this internationally renowned event on its 30th Anniversary.
Among the entrants for the 2010 race are two identical yachts from Sailing Logic, based in the Solent, the leading yacht racing charter company in the UK. These are Visit Malta Puma (aka Puma Logic RORC Yacht of the Year 2009), skippered by Philippe Falle, with eight crew plus skipper and mate. The oldest member of the crew is Brian Philipps who is 70! Another crew member is Alice who is 60 who says that learning to race with Sailing Logic has turned her life around. Both have competed numerous times on offshore and inshore races with Sailing Logic and on this boat and are now hardened racing fanatics.
The second boat is Jaguar Logic skippered by James Allen who skippered ‘Me to You’ on the Challenge 2000 Race, and is Training Manager for Clipper Ventures. Again there is a crew of eight plus skipper and mate. These are mixed crews of novices and returning clients – individuals not corporate.
Enquiries from possible entrants in the race are welcome. Application forms and further details are available from lynnstringer@eircom.net or Dennis Noonan Telephone: 01-2819459.
