
2 Day training course to meet ISAF
Special Regs 6.01 (Appendix G)
From January 2006 this is the minimum training required for all Cat 2 Races including BMW Round Ireland, Rolex Fastnet Race and the ARC
The
Course has three basic components:
Sea
Survival - Cold water immersion, use of life rafts and rescue
Fire
Fighting and Basic First Aid - Use of extinguishers, CPR, shock, hypothermia
Heavy
Weather Racing – Storm Tactics and effecting emergency repairs
Day
1 of this course is based on the RYA Sea Survival Course and includes
a practical life raft session in the pool and firing real flares. The rest of
the day is spent in the classroom discussing safety equipment, survival and
rescue.
Day
2 of the course covers some basic first aid, weather forecasting,
practical use of fire extinguishers, use of storm sails, storm tactics while
racing, affixing emergency repairs and various methods of recovering one of your
classmates from the water.
Although
this is a shorebased course it has many practical elements and some of the
course is done on board a yachts tied alongside in the marina.
