2 Courses - Dates: 

Course 1

Sea & Shore are running the following courses, please contact us if you wish to reserve a place:
The last offshore survival course before this years Round Ireland race will take place on Friday and Saturday 6th and 7th June.
Venue TBA but will be in Dublin area. Fee is €285 pp. Further course details can be found on our own website.

At least 30% of a crew including the skipper shall have undertaken this training within the five years before the start of the race.  . The format is a two-day course run over a Saturday and or Sunday. Topics include personal safety and survival, heavy weather tactics, equipment, fire fighting, case studies, hands on experience with safety equipment. The Certificate is good for five years.  If you plan to take part in offshore racing (Round Ireland, Round Britain etc) in 2008 plan now for you crew requirements.  This course includes the Seas Survival modal.  If you already have a Sea Survival certificate, you must still attend both days for the certificate to be valid for five years.

Day 1 is Shore based seas survival and followed by practical in the water pool session with life rafts and other equipment.

Day 2 Classroom session and practical session on heavy weather sailing techniques, storm preparation, fire fighting, safety gear use and case studies.

Course 2

TWO DAY COURSE to ISAF CATEGORY “2”

Covers the full ISAF/ISA approved programme required for offshore races.

Royal Irish Yacht Club  (and Killiney Castle Leisure Centre)

Tuesday 27th May
and
Wednesday  28th May
0900-1800 each day

The course is being delivered by

• John Leahy (Oceanmaster Sail Training RYA/ISA Yachtmaster Ocean)
• Matt Reid, (Leinster Cruising School and ISA Yachtmaster Examiner)
• Kevin Rahill (MNTB and RYA Sea Survival Instructor.)

The course design provides for one complete day covering all aspects of sea survival, and an afternoon wet-session in a warm pool. The second day covers the balance of subjects with interactive hands-on practical work, audio-visual presentations and group discussion.

• Storm sails / Damage control and repair
• Heavy weather – crew routines, boat handling, drogues
• Man overboard prevention and recovery
• Giving assistance to other craft
• Hypothermia
• SAR organisation and methods
• Weather forecasting
• Liferafts & lifejackets (theory)
• Liferafts  & lifejackets (practical)
• Fire precautions and fire fighting (theory)
• Fire precautions and fire fighting (practical)
• CPR and first aid (theory)
• CPR and first aid (practical)
• Communications equipment (theory)

• Pyrotechnics & EPIRBS (theory)
• Pyrotechnics & EPIRBS (practical)
 
Upon completion an ISA/ISAF certificate of completion is awarded which has a validity of 5 years and is good for all offshore events run under ISAF rules.

The cost of the course is €270. Coffee is included and a light bar lunch is available at modest cost.
